The facility was originally built by Florida Hospital in 1958 on land donated by the late Dr. Phillips and was operated as an acute hospital, until 1964, for the delivery of medical services to the black community. In 1964 the South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists assumed its ownership and operation as a nursing home until 1968. It was at this juncture that Guardian Care, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation was formed to continue caring for the community’s long-term nursing needs.
From their humble beginnings….today Guardian Care is a Five-Star rated, 120 bed skilled nursing home facility located on the corner of John Young Parkway and Church Street.
