The event will feature historic highlights of the organization, live entertainment and soul food. We are proud to be honoring two key individuals, Rufus Brooks, Retired Principal and Orlando Civil Rights Movement Leader and Marie Palmer, Retired Educator and Orlando Civil Rights Movement Leader, who both have been an integral part of building and sustaining this organization and the community as a whole.

“Our rich and diverse history as well as our outstanding accomplishments are like none other in the Central Florida area. It is only suitable that we acknowledge the predecessors that made this institution successful while showing our appreciation to the individuals and organizations that help to sustain us today,” stated Eloise Abrahams, RN, NHA, Administrator of Guardian Care Rehabilitation and Nursing Center

The facility was originally built by Florida Hospital in 1958 on land donated by the late Dr. Phillips and was operated as an acute hospital, until 1964, for the delivery of medical services to the black community. In 1964 the South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists assumed its ownership and operation as a nursing home until 1968. It was at this juncture that Guardian Care, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation was formed to continue caring for the community’s long-term nursing needs.

From their humble beginnings….today Guardian Care is a Five-Star rated, 120 bed skilled nursing home facility located on the corner of John Young Parkway and Church Street. Guardian Care, the recipient of the Bronze Quality Award, offers skilled rehabilitation services including Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy. The facility proudly boasts a memory care unit that specializes in providing care and services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related forms of Dementia. Recently, Guardian Care proudly announced the facility was found to be deficiency free during the Annual Survey by the Agency for Health Care Administration
